String Quartets in Tribute explores the string quartet as a powerful medium of dedication, influence, and personal remembrance. The program traces a musical lineage from Mozart’s celebrated quartets dedicated to Haydn, through the rarely heard voice of Moldovan composer Boris Dubossarsky, to one of Shostakovich’s most personal chamber works. Dubossarsky’s String Quartet No. 4 receives its United States premiere, holding special meaning for violinists Nina Zubaidi and Eugenia Goldman, both natives of Moldova. Goldman also participated in a quartet class taught by the composer. The result is more than a historical survey—it is a living musical inheritance passed across generations.
